Josie Fleeman has worked in the costume department of a long running West End musical for 17 years and in the theatre industry nationally and internationally for more than 30 years. She has now 'semi-retired' from theatre to pursue her life-long passion for creating arts and crafts, specialising in wool works.
Josie set up Jocund Crafts in 2020 to teach vintage crafts workshops in Warwickshire for everyone from absolute beginners 8+ years to experienced professional makers wanting to extend their crafting skills.
Workshops and training can be provided for individuals or small groups.
Josie also makes bespoke costume pieces for theatre.

NEEDLE FELTING WORKSHOPS
Woolly Eggs
for confident beginners and improvers
Needle felt a 3D woolly egg and add your own decorative design. Whilst you will be taught the basics of needle felting core shapes and applique design this course will also suit improvers. You will gain the skill to go on and create and decorate more complex 3D forms whilst having fun creating these jocund spring decorations.

for absolute beginners
Needle felt as many bees as you can in colours of your choosing. The techniques you learn on this absolute beginners' and child friendly course will give you the foundation skills to go on and create and decorate little felty creations for any occasion.

Sweet Hearts
for beginners and improvers
Needle felt as many hearts as you can in colours of your choosing and add your own freehand applique design or words. The fast stencil based needle felting techniques you learn on this beginners' course will give you the skills to go on and create and decorate wedding favours, posing props and sweet decorations for any occasion.

Cornish Blue
Mussel Shells
for improvers and experienced makers
Needle felt three Cornish blue mussel shells. Whilst you will revisit the basics of needle felting, this course will focus on sculpting from natural shapes and colour blending. This will give you the skill to go on and create more complex forms influenced by nature.

Needle felt seven 3D Dorset coast wishing stones. You will be taught the basics of needle felting, how to construct simple 3D shapes and apply effective free-hand applique. This will give you the skill to go on and create other basic core shapes and add your own simple decorative designs.

Needle felt a 3D jolly snowperson. Whilst you will be taught the basics of needle felting, how to construct a core shape and create simple character features, this course will also suit improvers. You will gain the skills to go on and create more complex 3D forms.

for absolute beginners
Needle felt a 3D hanging decoration using a stencil of your choice. You will be taught the basics of needle felting, how to construct simple 3D shapes from stencils and apply stencil applique. This will give you the skill to go on and create personalised stencil eco-friendly decorations for all occasions.

WET FELTING WORKSHOPS
Felted Bowl
for beginners and improvers
Wet felt a bowl using carded and merino wool, a resist to create the basic bowl shape, lots of warm soapy water and elbow grease! All materials will be provided but you will need to bring a large towel, apron and tight fitting washing up gloves. This is a fun and energetic workshop and the skills you learn can be applied to make other items like bags, tea cosies and slippers!

CROCHET WORKSHOPS
Wishie-Washies
for everyone
Crochet 100% cotton wash cloths or dish cloths in a super easy pattern. Eco-friendly and very long lasting as well as fun to make - 3 basic crochet stitches will be taught which can be used for Wishie-Washies. Skills learnt will enable students to follow patterns using the basic stitches used in the workshop. All yarn is included and you will be able to buy or borrow hooks on the day.

Super Chunky Yarn Basket
for absolute beginners and improvers
Crochet a rustic basket. The basic slip stitch and single crochet stitch will be taught for absolute beginners and the basket will be made in the workshop in ribbon or super chunky yarn. Skills learnt will enable students to go on to make baskets in a variety of yarns, sizes and styles. Yarn is included and you will be able to buy or borrow 10mm hooks on the day.

Vintage Daisy
Granny Square Projects
for confident beginners and improvers
Crochet a Vintage Daisy Granny Square which can be used to make endless projects from blankets, bags, pot stands and placemats to cardigans. The magic circle and 4 basic crochet stitches will be taught in making this project in an aran yarn. Skills learnt will enable students to follow patterns using the stitches taught in the workshop. All yarn is included and you will be able to buy or borrow hooks on the day.

Flower Power
for confident beginners and improvers
Learn to crochet single layer and double layer jocund flowers using four stitches and magic circles in this fun workshop. Flowers can be used to embellish hats, clothes, bags and home décor. Stiches will be taught on the day, a range of yarn weights, colours and types and decorative beads will be provided to spark your creativity. 4 and 5 mm hooks will be used. You will be able to buy or borrow hooks and and other tools on the day.
Please note pattern reading will not be covered in this workshop.

Huggy Super-Chunky Scarf
for confident beginners and improvers
Crochet a super chunky scarf in supersoft acrylic yarn using two basic crochet stitches, and learn how to fringe items from scarves to blankets. You will choose your yarn colour on booking the workshop - two skeins (balls) of yarn are included in the workshop price (to make a 120cm scarf), should you wish to make a longer scarf further yarn can be bought in advance. 10mm hooks will be used and you will be able to buy or borrow hooks and other utensils on the day.
Please note if you choose to make a longer scarf this project will need to be finished at home.

Baby Beanie
for confident beginners and improvers
Crochet 100% supersoft organic cotton DK weight mini-beanie for the new little ones in your life. Sizes from preemie to 12 months can be made. The patterns are easy using only 4 basic crochet stitches and a magic circle - which will be taught on the day. Skills learnt will enable students to follow patterns using the basic stitches used in the workshop. All yarn is included and you will be able to buy or borrow hooks, needles and purchase other supplies if needed on the day.

Chunky Bobble Beanie
for confident beginners and improvers
Crochet a chunky yarn bobble beanie hat learning two basic crochet stitches, how to increase and decrease stitches and use a pompom maker for the removable bobble. All yarn is included and you will be able to buy or borrow hooks and pompom makers on the day.

Fees include wool and yarn where indicated, vegan cake and hot drinks. Felting needles, felting mats, finger guards, scissors and crochet hooks will be provided for use on the day, or bring your own. Many items can also be purchased on the day.
Bookings for individual tuition, virtual tuition, private parties or in tutor groups at a location to suit you can be organised.
For virtual tuition all materials will be shipped out to you in a bespoke, eco-friendly parcel.
